Leafs Talk Forever Blog: Season 1, Issue 1



Welcome to the Leafs Talk Forever weekly blog, where I will look at the week that was and the week ahead, as well as the news from the team. This blog will coincide with the Leafs Talk Forever Podcast which releases to all podcast streaming services every Friday by noon EST.


News from the Team:

o Jake Muzzin is out indefinitely with a cervical spine injury and will be re-evaluated in February. Some believe that he will not play again this season.

o TJ Brodie has injured his oblique and will be out for a minimum of 2 weeks, this is the first time he has been injured with the team.

o Borje Salming was honoured in Toronto over the Hall of Fame weekend in a heartbreaking but beautiful ceremony by the Leafs.

o Matt Murray returns to face his former team, the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time since 2020 when they dealt him to the Ottawa Senators.


The Week that was:

Friday, November 11th, 2022: Toronto takes the 4-2 loss against Crosby and the Pens

o Maple Leafs honour both Borje Salming and the Hall of Fame inductees

o Zach Aston-Reese finds the back of the night against the team that he called him for five years.

o Willy Nylander gets one on the powerplay in the 2nd period.

o Källgren stops 19/22 and ends the contest with a .864 SV%


Saturday, November 12th, 2022: The Leafs come out on top 3-2 versus the Canucks

o Maple Leafs honour Borje Salming again, this time with him and his family at centre ice.

o Keefe and the Leafs start an all-Swedish starting lineup which included, Engvall, Jarnkrok, Nylander, Sandin, Liljegren and Källgren between the pipes

o Källgren gets the rare back-to-back starts with both their 1st and 2nd strings still injured, he saw 29 shots and saved 27 for a .931 SV%.

o Matthews and Engvall find the back of the net, against backup Spencer Martin

o An Unlikely hero, Jordie Benn gets the game-winner against his former team.


Tuesday, November 15th, 2022: The Leafs get revenge against the Pens, winning 5-2

o Matt Murray returns against his former team for the first time since 2020.

o The big names finally fill the score sheet

o John Tavares recorded his 400th career goal

o Bunting doubles down

o Benn and Rielly look good together

o Murray looked good coming off injury stopping 35/37, earning himself a .946 SV%


The Week Ahead:

The Maple Leafs hope to continue how they have been playing as of late when they take on the following three opponents in the next week:

o Thursday, November 17th, 2022: Toronto takes on the red-hot New Jersey Devils

o Saturday, November 19th, 2022: Buffalo takes a trip down the QEW to play the Leafs

o Monday, November 21st, 2022: Johnny T and the Leafs take on the Islanders
